Clients & experience

Over the last thirty years I have advised over 250 law firms and barristers chambers in the UK and Ireland, and have provided management skills training for firms in Lisbon, The Hague and Brussels.  Today most of my work is with UK Top 200 firms, facilitating partner retreats and running in house management skills programmes for their associates and partners.  I have also undertaken extensive consultancy work for the Law Society of England & Wales, the Legal Services Commssion and the Ministry of Justice.

I have written several books including “Profitability and Law Firm Management” (Law Society 2007) and “From Recession to Upturn – financial management and strategy for law firms” (Law Society 2009).   The 3rd edition of “Profitability and Law Firm Management was published by the Law Society in 2016.

I am a former vice chair of the Executive Committee of the LMS (Law Management Section – part of the Law Society), and a former core MBA faculty member and module leader for the Nottingham Law School MBA in Legal Practice.  I am a founding member of the Law Consultancy Network.

I have worked extensively with the professional bodies and Government, including:

  • The Law Society
  • The Law Society of Scotland
  • The Law Society of Northern Ireland
  • The Ministry of Justice
  • Lord Carter’s Review of Legal Aid Procurement in England & Wales
  • The Legal Services Commission

“We knew our business model was stagnated, out of date and not fit for the post legal Services Act world. In 2010 Andrew came in and gave us a warts and all assessment of what we did well and not so well. He did not necessarily give us all the answers but he made us look at ourselves very carefully and galvanised us into action. Three years on our firm is a very different place in which to work. We now have energy and direction.”

“We engaged Andrew to help get some clarity and simplicity in our management processes. Andrew was able to identify what we were doing well for further improvement, whilst highlighting areas that needed streamlining to move forward. Andrew has the ability to unearth what’s really going on and provides accountability and focus to make sure the necessary work gets done.”

“Andrew has a depth of knowledge about the pressures facing the owners of solicitors practices today and a wide experience of how different firms are tackling these issues. However his real strength is the clarity he brings to the planning and decision making process which allied with his energy and enthusiasm helped generate a real sense of purpose and unity amongst our partners.”

“We asked Andrew to facilitate a joint partners’ away day following the announcement of the proposed merger of our two firms, in order to help us bond as partners and to formulate an agreed vision and strategy for the new merged firm. Andrew’s involvement exceeded all expectations. He spent a few days with each firm a few weeks before the away day in order to get to know us and our staff, and he was able to bring this knowledge, together with his vast experience of law firms, to help us define our vision and strategy. I would recommend Andrew to any small or mid sized law firm wanting advice on strategy, whether you think you need it or not.”

In addition to my work in the UK and Ireland I have run a number of seminars and worked with several firms in Lisboa.
